A focus on workforce skills rather than job titles is required to address staff shortages and recruitment difficulties in Scottish Cancer Services, the SoR has suggested.
Responding to the Scottish Government's Consultation, 'On Better Cancer Care', the Society went on to say 80% of radiotherapy practice practice could be managed by non-medical advanced/consultant practitioners (therapeutic radiographers) who have the necessary knowledge and skills and are based entirely within the radiotherapy centre.
The response also recommends implementation of the SCoR four tier skills mix model so all Scottish radiotherapy centres and says therapeutic radiographers, by virtue of their undergraduate education, are best placed to be directly involved in cancer service provision.
