This is the question researchers from the University of Hertfordshire will be asking in a new study to identify the current scope of practice of the radiography workforce.
Commissioned by the SoR, the research will look at aspects of clinical imaging and radiotherapy including the different healthcare environments radiographers work in, and career progression and role developments which have occurred within the profession over the past five years.
The project will also assess the extent to which the four-tier structure has been adopted by the profession.
SoR professional officer Christina Freeman added: “The last Scope of Practice was written in 2003 and we anticipate there have been significant changes since then.
“Radiographers have developed their roles to meet service needs in an ever changing healthcare environment. This project will identify these changes and give us an accurate picture of professional practice in 2008. This will help with promotion of the profession and with the design of future professional development.”
