Guests from the profession, colleague professions and industry gathered in London this month to celebrate the inauguration of new SoR president Sandra Mathers.
Described as “a great and influential ambassador for the profession," Sandie has dedicated more than four decades to diagnostic radiography.
She is currently a research radiographer at NHS Grampian in Scotland, but also works regularly as a radiographer at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
During her inaugural speech, Sandie called upon radiologists to work with radiographers to provide a safe, efficient and timely service for patients.
“Radiography, as a profession, has moved on and radiographers have set their sights high. We are no longer the handmaidens mopping the fevered brow,” she said.
“Radiographers and radiologists need to come together, pull together and work together in order to provide a service for the most important people who come through our doors every day – not the radiographers, and not the radiologists, but our patients.”
The Society’s UK council elected Welsh Council member Jackie Hughes as vice-president. Jackie will step into the shoes of Sue Johnson, who becomes president-elect.
