The DH has published a report which considers options for quality assuring senior NHS managers.
The report was commissioned after Lord Darzi’s report, High Quality Care for all, NHS Next Stage Review noted that while the vast majority of managers within the NHS are performing to a high standard, there remains a small number with significant performance issues.
According to the new report, stakeholders recognise that although senior managers do not tend to have direct contact with patients, their actions can impact heavily on them.
There was, therefore, a desire for further support for these senior NHS staff to assist them to continue to operate at an effective level and further develop.
Stakeholders also wanted a form of support which would provide a mechanism whereby if managers were not performing at the required level this could be identified and addressed in a systematic manner.
