An online petition is seeking to safeguard the future use of MRI, ensuring that patients in Europe will not be precluded from state of the art healthcare services.
The Alliance for MRI is requesting an EU-wide exemption for the medical use of MRI and related research from any exposure limit values set out in the Physical Agents Directive 2004/40/EC (EMF).
'The exposure limits in the directive have now been proven to be detrimental to patient care, most notably restricting and limiting the use of MRI in interventional applications and in imaging vulnerable patients and children where closer patient contact is required', it states.
The petition will be sent to European institutions, national governments, parliaments and other decision-making bodies to enhance the profile of the Alliance for MRI and demonstrate the significance of this issue.
