The Society has launched the developmental pilot phase of its advanced and consultant level accreditation scheme.
Speaking at the Annual Radiotherapy Weekend last month, Audrey Paterson, director of professional policy, described the Society’s commitment to developing this much needed system.
“It will enable those practicing at an advanced and consultant level to be benchmarked against recognised standards which have been agreed nationally, therefore gaining recognition from their peers and employers,” she said.
“The standards also fall into line with the expectations of regulatory bodies such as the HPC, and a framework of support for sustaining accreditation and further professional development will be a key component.”
The scheme, which has been designed to benefit those outside as well as inside the profession, will be delivered through CPD Now, is voluntary and free to all SoR members.
Audrey continued: “The radiotherapy community has championed this idea so it is a pleasure to be launching the scheme at the RT Weekend. We are now looking for at least 300 members who are currently working at an advanced level to step forward and sign up. The success of the next phase hangs on this pilot cohort – their experiences will be essential to the scheme's future development and success.”
Members who sign up will be guided through every stage of the process. Those who become accredited will, however, be expected to renew their accreditation every two years. "The message is, don’t go for it unless you feel ready," said Audrey.
