Start thinking about your nominations for the SoR Radiography Awards 2008.
This year as well as awards for Radiographer of the Year 2008 and Team of the Year, the SoR has launched a new award to recognise outstanding achievement by radiography students.
The Radiography Student of the Year Award will honour a final year undergraduate member who represents the best of the profession's values.
Nominations for the Student of the Year will be co ordinated through the Higher Education Institutions with specific support being required from clinical placement sites.
Nominations for Radiographer of the Year and Team of the Year will proceed as in previous years.
There are many reasons why managers decide to put forward the name of an individual or team so that they can be recognised by the profession and by the public.
“The awards are the ideal opportunity to raise the profile of radiographers and the work that they do,” says Zena Mitton, the Society’s President.
“It means so much to the nominees, their colleagues, family and friends. One of the highlights is the presentations, which take place at the House of Commons before an invited audience of the ‘great and the good’ of radiography, plus members of parliament and a high profile guest who presents the awards.”
Another benefit is that the profile of the individual’s or team’s department increases dramatically.
“Everyone in the hospital, from the chief executive to the department manager, is aware that a member of staff or a team has won a high profile, nationally recognised award,” Richard Evans, the SoR’s chief executive comments.
“In addition, it is a brilliant opportunity to gain greater recognition for the profession and what radiographers do."
Details of the prizes will be announced soon, although last year's sponsors Fujifilm have already agreed to continue their support for the awards.
Nomination forms for both titles will be distributed with the May edition of Synergy News.
