Icon of invention

Radiography enjoyed some well-timed publicity earlier this month as the public recognised the importance of the technology in a poll that named the best invention.

The x-ray machine was the top of the list of the most important scientific inventions in a Science Museum poll in which 50,0000 members of the public voted.

“It was particularly appropriate because the news came a week before World Radiography Day which is celebrated on 8 November – the anniversary of the discovery of x-ray,” said Richard Evans, the Society’s chief executive.

“We are delighted that the public has recognised the importance of the technology and the impact it has had upon the medical profession since its invention over 100 years ago.”
