Radiographers are due to renew their statutory registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC) by 28 February 2010.
The HPC is asking radiology service managers to help by ensuring that all staff are appropriately registered. “If an employee lapses off the register then by law they are not allowed to practice using the title ‘radiographer’, ‘diagnostic radiographer’ or ‘therapeutic radiographer’” explained Nina Blunck from the HPC.
“Please make all colleagues aware of the renewal date and ask anyone that has changed their home address to contact the registration department (see below) as soon as possible.”
Radiographers will be sent a registration renewal form at the beginning of December this year. They must ensure they pay the correct fee and sign the form. According to the HPC, radiographers must sign and complete the form even if a direct debit payment is made. Fee payment alone does guarantee re-registration.
The HPC has issued the following checklist to help managers maintain staff registration:
• Encourage staff to send their renewal form (and payment) to us as soon as possible.
• Place a reminder, such as the registration poster (pictured above) on your staff notice board.
• Remind staff about renewing their registration in any internal communications, emails and meetings.
• Check the online register via the ‘multiple registrant search facility’. This allows employers to check the registration status of up to 100 employees at one time. This tells you who has renewed their registration for the next cycle and who hasn’t. Remind those that haven’t that the deadline is fast approaching.
• Encourage staff to sign up to receive our newsletter HPC In Focus, which includes renewal reminders.
To notify the HPC of a change of address, contact the registration department on 0845 3004 472 (lo-call if calling from within the UK) or (0)20 7840 9802. Phone lines are open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6pm.
