The SoR is asking managers from NHS ultrasound departments to complete an online survey on behalf of their department. The survey will provide evidence of the extent of ultrasound workforce shortages in the UK.
“There is a shortage of appropriately qualified sonographers and an ever increasing demand for ultrasound examinations,” said Audrey Paterson, SoR’s director of professional policy.
“The shortage is impacting on the ability of the services to meet demand, government targets and the requirements of national screening programmes. It is also affecting sonographers adversely in terms of workplace stress, musculo-skeletal injury and career development opportunities.”
The results of the survey will be used to support recommendations to take to national and regional health departments, and other major stakeholders.
