Radiographers touching a patient without obtaining valid consent may be accused of battery or sexual assault under new criminal law.
The Mental Capacity Act came into effect on 1 October 2007 to offer patients greater protection when they lose their mental faculties. In response, the SoR is offering consent training for radiographers undertaking examination or treatment.
Delivered by Bond Solon legal consultancy, the one day course includes sessions on patients who lack capacity, different forms of consent and end of life issues.
Through trainer-led discussions and case studies, participants will examine issues facing radiographers in their daily practice.
“Radiographers delivering radiotherapy treatment or undertaking clinical imaging examination have a duty of care to ensure patients are fully aware of the procedure and have consented. This course will ensure your staff can approach consent issues with confidence,” said Christina Freeman, SoR professional officer.
