In a letter to the SoR, the Health Professions Council (HPC) has responded to what it describes as the 'high level of disquiet' amongst Society members.
The radiographers' reaction was prompted by the HPC’s decision in October 2008 to increase registration fees. At the time, the SoR expressed its ‘dismay’ and asked the HPC to provide evidence to registrants concerning efficiency and value for money within the organisation.
HPC CEO and registrar Marc Seale has responded by reminding members that the fee is tax deductible via Form P368 and that registrants employed by the NHS in England recieve an annual payment of £36 to assist in the cost of registration. For most registrants, says Seale, this equates to approximately 50p a week.
Seale also maintains that the HPC is 'currently the most economical regulator of health professionals in the UK'.
