The National Cancer Research Groups has launched a new radiotherapy working group to develop what it hopes will be 'an ambitious portfolio of practice changing trials'.
The Clinical and Translational Radiotherapy Research Working Group will also be responsible for ensuring coordination across all aspects of radiobiology and radiotherapy research and promoting the translation of new discoveries into practice.
SoR professional officer for radiotherapy, Charlotte Beardmore, described the move as "extremely positive", saying: "This new group will provide a fresh impetus to radiotherapy research in the UK, building on existing strengths to reclaim the internationally competitive position which UK radiotherapy research has held in the past."
Most importantly, she suggested, the research projects will mean jobs and opportunities for engagement with radiographers. "There is acknowledgement of the importance of radiographers and the research agenda, and the need to generate more posts in the service through collaboration about training needs between SCoR NCRI and CRUK."
