Carestream Health demonstrated the first wireless, cassette-sized digital radiography (DR) detector, the Carestream DRX-1 System.
Since this new detector can be employed in all applications where a 14 x 17 inch (35 x 43 cm) x-ray cassette would be used, it can be easily incorporated into all types of radiology environments and does not require modification of existing rooms.
UK radiographers that saw the advance previews of the new detector praised the system's affordability and productivity.
Denise Newell, superintendent radiographer at Daisy Hill Southern Trust, Northern Ireland said: "It looks quicker to use than ordinary detectors and I think it would be good, especially for trauma cases. You can use with your existing kit so don’t have to get an expensive refurb just to update your detector.”
Other technical highlights in this year's exhibitions included Wardray's first CyberKnife lead room for radiotherapy and Hologic's system for 3D breast image mammography.
