What are the effects of Agenda for Change (AfC) on career progression among radiography staff in England and Wales?
A study to investigate this has just been commissioned by the SoR. The project will be researched by a team from the University of Hertfordshire, the Institute of Employment Studies, and Oxford Radcliffe NHS Hospitals.
The investigation will focus on career expectations of radiography staff, as well as current opportunities and barriers to career progression in relation to AfC. The main study will take the form of an online survey which will be accessible in January.
Project lead, Hazel Edwards, said: "The implementation of Agenda for Change in 2004 generated strong opinions among radiographers at the time. We want to find out now how Agenda for Change is working for the profession. This is the chance for imaging and oncology staff in England and Wales to tell us how it has affected their career progression."
She added that it is vital the researchers hear from staff practising in all modalities and from all levels, including support workers and assistant practitioners.
"Only by assessing evidence provided by individuals from within the whole of the radiographic workforce will we be able to fairly evaluate Agenda for Change and make recommendations for the future."
Look out for more details, including the link to the online survey, which will be featured here in January’s Synergy News.
In the meantime, if you have any queries please email Hazel.
