NHS staff should start 'thinking differently'

Are you ready to start thinking differently? That's the question being asked of NHS staff by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, which has just launched a new guide to encourage just that.

The premise is that by thinking creatively and embracing new ideas, NHS clinicians and managers can transform healthcare provision and improve patient care.

The Institute worked with three teams from Luton and Dunstable Hospital Foundation Trust - one of which was imaging - to develop creativing thinking concepts and pilot their tools.

The guide provides practical approaches and tools to creative thinking, including reframing by wordplay, Dr Edward de Bono's six thinking hats and mental benchmarking. These tools have already been proven valuable to industry.

Commenting for the Institute's website, Stephen Ramsden, CEO, Luton & Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust: "Thinking Differently has contributed enormously to the success of our trust over the last few years.

"The techniques have helped unblock barriers and, as importantly, the approach has supported our culture of continuous improvement. It has also been hugely rewarding for staff as well as patients."

To find out more and to download an introduction to the guide visit the Institute's website.
