A GI consultant radiographer from the north west of England has won the title of SoR UK Radiographer of the Year 2008.
Andrea Owen scoops the award following a nomination from Professor Peter Hogg and Julie Nightingale. Both paid tribute to Andrea's professionalism, enthusiasm and dedication to radiography advanced practice and education.
“It is a real honour and I am delighted that my work has been recognised by the Society of Radiographers. It was a total surprise to me, but what was really nice was that all my colleagues said it came as no surprise to them!" said Andrea.
"My role is extremely varied and challenging. I am currently developing my skills in reporting CT colonography which means patients receive their results more quickly.”
Peter Morris, CEO of University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, said: “High quality diagnostic services are absolutely vital to ensuring that patients are diagnosed and treated in the shortest possible timescale.
"Andrea is an example of someone who has taken their role to the very highest levels of achievement and is held in universal high regard by everyone at the hospital.”
Andrea and the regional winners of SoR Radiographer of the Year 2008 will be presented with their awards by Chief Health Professions Officer Karen
Middleton at a ceremony at the House of Commons on Thursday 6 November.
