A new national radiotherapy dataset has been published by the Department of Health.
The dataset change notice (DSCN) introduces the radiotherapy minimum dataset into the NHS data model and dictionary.
The standard is intended to facilitate the collection of data regarding patients treated with radiotherapy, which will be used by commissioners, providers, and a range of other organisations.
The work was guided by an expert working group comprising oncologists, radiotherapy radiographers, physicists, database administrators and business managers from radiotherapy services backgrounds. The Society has played a significant role in this work and will continue to be an active partner.
Outputs from the standard include radiotherapy activity data, waiting times for radiotherapy, and variations in clinical practice.
