Overseas bid for diagnostic work
The Apollo Hospital Group has been shortlisted by the NHS to bid for four geographical areas in the UK, where it could provide diagnostic services, reports the Hindu Business Line.
The outcome of the bid is expected by next spring and the group is also hoping to bid for surgical services.
Apollo says that no local jobs would be at risk from the outsourcing because all services will be offered from UK-based facilities using an as yet un-named British partner, which already provides “info-tech services for the healthcare sector.”
Mr K Padmanabhan, group president of Apollo, said that diagnostic support offered by the company would include CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, endoscopy, ultrasound, and so on. He also confirmed that no one would be flown to India for treatment, as the NHS charter prevents patients from being treated in a facility more than three and a half hours away.
