Only three months to appeal against AfC banding decision

Ticking ClockLatest SoR figures reveal that almost half of all radiographers who have been matched so far are likely to contest their Agenda for Change banding.

Almost 800 useable responses have been received in response to the SoR’s request for information from members. More than 600 of these have been matched to an AfC profile. Results show that 41 per cent (259) of the respondees are contesting their banding. However, the Society needs more radiographers to share information about their experiences to provide a clear national picture to use in negotiations with the government.

Staff need to be reminded that once they have been matched, they have only three months in which to appeal against the decision. If they want to appeal, it is the manager’s responsibility to review their job description with them to see whether any additional information needs to be submitted. It is crucial that all aspects of the job are comprehensively and accurately described, taking account of the two key factors – ‘freedom to act’ and ‘knowledge, skills and experience’. It is also important that the autonomous decision making required for working alone, such as on-call, is fully recognised.

All radiographers – managers and staff - are urged to complete the Society survey.

“We rely on members to let us know – good or bad – what their matching outcome is. We also want to hear from support workers. We need to know how all members are faring in the matching process,” said Susan Henry, information office.

For a paper copy of the survey questionnaire, contact Vicky Andrews or Susan Henry at SoR HQ. Telephone 020 7740 7234 or e-mail vickya@sor.org or susanh@sor.org.

Job matching advice is available on the Society’s AfC website or through your regional officer.
