Scottish rads reap rewards on new government scheme

Radiographers and other allied health professionals in Scotland are to benefit from a new support and development scheme announced by health minister Andy Kerr, as part of a wider strategy to tackle recruitment and retention problems.

The new scheme includes:

  1. £3000 for AHPs who take up posts vacant for six months or more. In addition, £3000 will also be given to the team who have supported the vacancy – the money can be used for education, training and development.
  2. £5000 travel scholarships for experienced practitioners to explore development in other healthcare environments.
  3. A new AHP support and development programme, Flying Start NHS. All new AHP graduates will be eligible for up to £4500 over the course of the programme.

The Scottish Executive is also providing half a million pounds over two years to establish an additional 10 AHP consultant posts in Scotland.
