Get to know your PCT

Erika Denton, National Clinical Lead for Diagnostic Imaging and Richard Evans, the Society's CEO, are encouraging managers to build relationships with their local commissioning bodies. In England, the world of PCTs continues to be extremely uncertain and pressurised due to financial constraints, government reforms and ambitious performance targets. Radiography has a vital role to play in helping those targets to be met but there is generally poor understanding amongst commissioners about what needs to be done at local level. Managers that take time to get to know key players in their local PCT (or other commissioners in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland) can find that their development proposals receive more positive attention and that they are consulted over planning for reform.

Contact can be made through the diagnostics lead or the AHP lead in the Strategic Health Authority. Or why not get directly in touch with the Chief Executive? In radiotherapy, the same advice applies but it would also be helpful to nurture relationships with your cancer network leads.
