The Child and the Law: The Roles and Responsibilities of the Radiographer

SoR brochureA new policy document has expanded the issues and topics that radiographers should be considering and aware of when dealing with children in the radiography department.

Published by the Society, The Child and the Law: The Roles and Responsibilities of the Radiographer , the publication updates the document, The Implications for Radiographers of the Children Act 1989, which was limited to issues surrounding child consent for imaging and radiotherapy examinations. The new policy document goes further and refers to the legal framework as applied to the child and examines the evidence in relationship to consent, non-accidental injury, and immobilisation of the child.

It includes a section on the important issue of looking after the children of patients whilst they are in the department. It also provides advice and guidance to the individual radiographer and recommendations related to education and training and outlines the requirement by managers to draw up referral guidelines for non accidental imaging (NAI).
