Drive to retrain Iraqi clinicians

The government is launching a programme to train new Iraqi health professionals. The Department of Health has been looking for a suitable organisation to provide Iraqi clinical teams with training and development in the UK.

The programme is expected to encompass 50 clinical teams over two years. Health minister Rosie Winterton said: “I believe the NHS can best contribute to this reskilling programme through the sharing of knowledge and expertise. The programme will help the Iraqis to modernise their healthcare system by updating the knowledge and skills of their clinicians and enabling them to spread that expertise more widely across the country.”
