Child cancer care reforms needed
The NHS needs to provide age-appropriate healthcare facilities for children and young people under 19 years old, according to new guidance from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Peter Littlejohns, executive lead for the guidance, said: “The distinct needs of young people with cancer have been increasingly recognised over recent years. Many young people do not feel comfortable within the paediatric setting, but they have unique needs that may not be addressed by adult services.”
The guidance also calls for staff working with children and young people to receive appropriate training. Visit www.nice.org.uk to download the guidance.
