Patients want better local services, not more choice
The government's policy of extending choice in healthcare is missing the point according to a survey published by Which? The consumer watchdog says that what people want is good local healthcare services, flexible to the needs of those using them.
Eighty-five per cent of people surveyed believed that access to a good local general practitioner was more important than being given more GPs to choose between;
Nine out of 10 agreed that access to a good local hospital was more important than being given a choice of hospitals;
Seventy-four per cent agreed that patients should be able to choose an appointment time that is convenient to them.
