NHS fails to put patients first
The NHS still has work to do to become a patient-led service. A report from the Healthcare Commission praised progress that has been made in improving cancer and heart services, but said other areas had been left behind.
The chair of the commission, Sir Ian Kennedy said: “Being an NHS patient is too often a frustrating experience. Services can seem fragmented and seem to be designed more to suit the needs of those providing them than those using them. People want better access to services, and they also want to understand what doctors tell them and to be treated and spoken to in a caring manner.”
The report pulls together a variety of information on the experience of patients, including Healthcare Commission survey results and feedback from patients' groups.
