Challenges ahead
 A new document explores the changing nature of the NHS workforce and some of the challenges ahead. The Department of Health’s Workforce response to local delivery plans: a challenge for NHS Boards stresses the need to plan to increase capacity. This is to be achieved through a slow growth in staff numbers and an increase in the productivity of staff. It also suggests less focus on professional groups, and a move towards the development of competencies for specific tasks.
A number of radiography departments are featured. City Hospitals Sunderland highlights the continuing demand for radiography staff, and the Medway Maritime NHS Trust presents its careers escalator for advanced and assistant radiographers.
