Band Aid
Job matching for radiographers is gathering pace across the UK. However, early reports are showing variable results across all bands and competence levels. This is despite the systems that are supposed to ensure fair and consistent implementation in all organisations.
The SCoR is aware that despite clear guidance and instruction, some employers are struggling to meet targets, resulting in discrepancies and shortcuts and producing inconsistent and unrealistic results. For example, there is evidence that matching panels have placed reporting radiographers in band 5, which is contrary to the profile. There is growing concern, and some evidence, that managers are facing similar inappropriate recognition.
Richard Evans, CEO of the SoR, commented: “The SoR will be monitoring results of matching and assimilation as part of the process of holding the NHS Employers to the promises made by the Health Minister after our rally last year. It is essential that managers are appropriately rewarded and that the management career path is developed as an attractive option for members of the profession. There is no doubt that the pressing cancer and diagnostics agendas will require excellent leaders in our profession. Any threat to this (including disillusionment with AfC) is a major concern to the SoR and those leading the work programmes in the Department of Health.”
