Society updates radiation protection info
The SoR website has been updated to include a comprehensive section on radiation protection. The pages are intended as a one-stop resource for members, particularly those with a responsibility for supervision within their department.
As well as useful documents from the Health and Safety Executive, the Society for Radiological Protection and the Health Protection Agency, the pages give details of the national contacts for the inspection and enforcement for incidents.
“There is also a frequently asked questions section that covers topical issues such as pregnancy and requests from non-medical referrers,” said Maria Murray, the lead SoR professional officer.
Additional work is being carried out to revise the Society’s radiation protection handbook, last published in 1989. “We’ve got a working party of eight radiographers with backgrounds in therapy and diagnostic radiography and nuclear medicine,” explained Maria. “We expect to publish the new version in the autumn.”
The SoR is also involved in updating various joint guidance documents including clinical imaging requests from medically qualified professionals, the use of ionising radiation in pregnancy and in research and clinical trials.
