Breaking barriers in the workplace

NHS employeeDespite the NHS being the largest employer of women in the UK, there is continued under-representation from women in senior posts, according to researchers.

The Breaking Barriers research team from the University of Liverpool say women are still outnumbered at senior level and experience unequal pay and promotion prospects at all levels.

The team has been awarded a substantial research grant from the European Social Fund to identify barriers and drivers to career progression for women. They are calling all mid-career women working in healthcare to share their experiences of progression to seniority by completing an online questionnaire.

The results will be used to identify practices that impact on women’s learning, progression and development and to produce recommendations for change to encourage equality in the workplace.
