Government and unions enter phase of joint working
The government, NHS Employers and unions have signalled their commitment to joint working by agreeing to sign up to a partnership agreement.
They will work together to promote effective partnership working on the workforce implications of policy. The new Partnership Agreement sets out agreed working arrangements for the revised Social Partnership Forum.
Warren Town, Director of Industrial Relations for the Society, welcomed the development but said whether the Government will stand by the agreement long term remains to be seen.
He commented, “The proof of any policy is in the application and long term commitment. We expect the government to adhere to the terms of this agreement. Unfortunately their current track record has been lacklustre, to say the least.
“The latest announcement to stage the PRB pay recommendation, driven by HM Treasury, has seriously damaged morale and confidence in the NHS and will mean that members in Gordon Brown's constituency in Scotland will be better off than members in England. Partnership is as much about consistency as it is about equity.”
