Staff involvement in National IT programme ‘essential’
Radiographers of all levels are being urged to take part in the development of the National Programme for IT (NPfIT)
Connecting For Health hopes staff will assist in the design of local IT systems, agreeing requirements and with user acceptance testing. They have launched a new initiative, the NPfIT Local Ownership Programme (NLOP) to help push forward projects with maximum input from staff.
Michael Thick, the chief clinical officer for the programme said: “It is essential that clinicians are involved throughout the process to ensure that the products and systems are fit for purpose and able to begin delivering benefits quickly to local NHS organisations.
“The NLOP should help ensure staff are released more easily to aid the design, build and testing of the programme.”
The SoR says this is good news for the IT programme. Richard Evans, CEO, commented: “Experience with the National PACS Implementation Programme has shown success is closely dependent on involvement with clinical staff in the service. It is vital that the radiography community is involved and exerts influence for positive change.”
