Latest redundancy figures are 'an insult'
The Society and other health unions have called the government's latest NHS redundancy figures 'an insult'.
According to the results of a survey of strategic health authorities, there were a total of 903 'compulsory redundancies' across England during the first half of this financial year.
Less than a quarter of these redundancies concern clinical staff, the vast majority being made up of managers and administrative staff.
Unions argue that the figure does not include thousands of proposed job cuts or unfilled hospital posts.
"We have seen a swathe of job cuts across the country, caused by NHS deficits," said Warren Town, the SoR director of industrial relations.
"Together health staff must force ministers to listen to their acute and real concerns about job security and the fragmentation of services."
