Band 8a - new profile agreed
A new band 8a profile - Radiographer Principal - has been agreed and released for general use.
The profile has been produced as a direct result of consistency checking against other professions and evidence that radiographers have not done as well as those on similar Whitley grades.
This profile will be of particular interest to departmental or speciality managers, deputies or clinical specialists who may have been squeezed into band 7 using the team leader profile. Members who are in this position may be currently going through reviews or appeals.
Linda Pennell, SoR regional officer, said: “We hope it will assist those very senior staff who have found it difficult to get their full range of skills and responsibilities acknowledged under AfC. Trusts will be asked to review decisions which may be affected by the new profile but if in any doubt, staff who feel their AfC outcome would be affected by this should draw it to the attention of their AfC department.”
Those members who have already gone through the review/appeal process and have been successful should ask for the results of consistency checking locally and nationally and then seek advice from their local SoR rep. The fact that the new profile has been agreed is positive proof that there are problems in radiography which don’t exist in other professions and need to be corrected.
