Scotland brings in HNC for assistant practitioners
The College of Radiographers is putting the final seal of approval on a Assistant Practitioners Higher National Certificate programmes for Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy. The courses will start in November at Stow College, Glasgow (Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy) and at Dundee College (Diagnostic Imaging).
The programmes are designed to "allow radiography imaging/radiotherapy helpers/or assistants the opportunity to develop their knowledge of the scientific and clinical principles underpinning a variety of imaging examinations and radiotherapy procedures and to conduct specified clinical examinations and radiotherapy treatments."
The HNC programmes will be taught over two years and will require students to attend college one day a week. The trainee assistant practitioners will be expected to study the clinical aspects of the programme in the workplace, working alongside radiographers who will supervise the training.
They will study not only the core professional units for radiography techniques and equipment but the supporting subjects which include anatomy, physiology, radiation physics, patient care in radiography, communication and writing skills, health care policies and positive health care for individuals.
