New 'Returners to Practice' policy

Radiographers looking at computer screenRadiographers who have been ‘out of practice’ will be required from July to complete a period of updating before they can return to the Health Professions Council register.

The new requirements are:

  • 0-2 years out of practice: no requirements;

  • 2-5 years out of practice: 30 days updating;

  • 5 or more years out of practice: 60 days updating.

Individuals can structure their updating period to include supervised practice, formal study, or private study. Private study should make up no more than half the updating period.

Returners will need to complete their updating within 12 months immediately preceding the date on which they apply to be readmitted to the register. The requirements also apply to people who apply for registration for the first time and whose approved qualification was completed more than five years ago.
