See you at UKRC!

UKRCHighlights of this year’s United Kingdom Radiological Congress (15-17 May 2006, Birmingham) includes a debate on the Monday, ‘This house proposes that radiographer reporting will be essential to meet future radiology service targets’, chaired by Professor Adrian Dixon of Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

The Society and College will be hosting two receptions and managers are invited to pick-up an invitation from the College’s stand. The first, at Monday lunchtime, will see the publication of this year’s edition of Imaging & Oncology. The second, at the same time the following day, will feature the presentation of various Society awards. Drinks and food will be provided at both.

Remember the times when you had difficulty deciding what sessions you could afford to miss at events like UKRC? Well, it seems that this year’s programme is a return to the ‘old days’ in terms of interest and stimulation for all sections of the diagnostic imaging community.

The content for managers is no exception. With the technical exhibition also promising to provide its own value in terms of CPD for delegates, the entire UKRC event promises to set new standards for this style of multi-disciplinary conference.

The challenges for managers in releasing their staff for any kind of development are obviously huge at the moment. However, for those who have been ambivalent about the value of UKRC in the past, this year is the right time to make the case for attending yourself and for bringing some of your people along. More established attendees should be reassured that the event promises to do more than ever before in providing CPD value.

The eponymous lectures are:
BIR Mayneord Lecture - Transforming the radiological interpretive process – the TRIP initiative by Dr Katherine Andriole, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.
RCR Tesla Lecture - Nuclear CT – the road ahead by Dr Gustav von Schulthess, Zurich University Medical School.
IPEM John Mallard Lecture - The current and future role of MR in healthcare by Professor Martin Leach, Royal Marsden Hospital.

CoR William Stripp Memorial Lecture - Orthopaedic patient pathways in the changing NHS by Stewart Whitley, Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
