IT is ‘key to radiographers’ remote working’

Jan LaidlowPACS is being touted by NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) as a prime example of how radiographers will be able to work successfully in remote locations.

“Practitioners working in the community will be able to perform and report images consecutively, perform investigations with the back-up assistance of a consultant colleague, refer cases to another specialist, and even discharge patients where appropriate,” said Jan Laidlow, NHS CFH clinical lead for AHPs.

“New technologies will help NHS staff deliver more care in the community, away from traditional hospital settings,” she continued.

“The IT modernisation will help deliver the plans set out in the White Paper ‘Our health, our care, our say: a new direction for community services.’ The proposals will have major implications and will mean an expansion of the services delivered in GP surgeries, clinics and community hospitals. Employment models are changing and staff will need to be equipped with skills to work across both hospital and community settings and in new environments. New community-based roles for staff will be aided by the introduction of systems from NHS CFH.”
