Final reminder: HPC registration renewal deadline

HP Check logoRadiographers were sent registration renewal notices during December by the Health Professions Council (HPC). Renewals must be PAID, SIGNED and RETURNED by 28 February.

The HPC reports that close to two-thirds of radiographers responded so far but that leaves a substantial number who have not. Practitioners who don’t meet the deadline will be removed from the register.

The renewal form has several parts: a declaration to be signed, a direct debit mandate and a change of personal details’ form. The HPC also sends every registrant a booklet which explains exactly how to complete the renewal form and which sections must be signed and dated.

The HPC will write to employers two weeks after the deadline for re-registration to let them know of any lapsed registrations amongst their staff. It will be unlikely that unregistered staff ‘get away’ with working whilst off the register.

Inevitably, re-registration revives discussion over whether managers and other specialist groups such as sonographers actually need to register as ‘Radiographers’ and whether they can honestly sign up as radiographers. The HPC advice is now clear that you can re-register. SoR advice is that radiographers that have progressed into single specialties, or into management or education, should remain on the register.

Registration fees can either be paid in one lump sum, by cheque or credit/debit card for the whole two year period (£120), or in six-monthly instalments of £30.
