Tories ‘will scrap targets’

Waiting times, staffing issues, rising costs of cancer drugs and the affordability of healthcare were tackled by John Baron MP, shadow minister of health, at a recent meeting with the SCoR and the RCRO.

If voted into power, he said the Conservatives would scrap targets, but strengthen NICE’s role to ensure that its guidelines and recommendations had statutory backing; that more money would be pumped into drugs and research for the treatment of cancer; and (surprise, surprise) that the private sector could have a much larger role in the development of healthcare in the UK.
