Government announces mammography study

Lady being scannedA 'major study of computer aided evaluation of mammograms' has been announced in parliament by Rosie Winterton, junior health minister.

In response to a question regarding the accuracy of screening by Ben Wallace, Conservative member for Lancaster and Wyre, Rosie Winterton said that the Department of Health and Cancer Research UK are funding research over the next two years.

She also announced a study into whether screening of women below the age of 50 is beneficial or not. Results are expected in the spring.
