Curing recruitment headaches

Managers have two new resources to help solve workforce problems. The Department of Health has introduced the Imaging Workforce Design Manual and the Retention and Recruitment Diagnostic and Design Resource CD (known as R2D2).
Christina Freeman, a Professional Support Officer at the Society tested the two products. Here are her verdicts:
-
The Imaging Workforce Design Manual aims to bring together resources to introduce workforce change and improve patient care. Christina was impressed with the clear way resources were organised. She commented: “The manual is an easy to read A4 ringbinder with plenty of images. It is a useful resource which pulls together various work on implementing new roles in imaging services. Managers will find most value in the sections on illustrative case studies and resources.”
-
The R2D2 CD aims to help managers diagnose and solve HR problems. Christina said: “It’s a very extensive resource and would take a long time to work through. Lots of clicking was involved, so it was difficult to work through the tool systematically. In the introduction, it suggests the user would dip in and out according to identified recruitment and retention problems, but my advice would be to spend time looking at the various sections. She continued: “The references are biased towards nursing, but are still worth looking at since we should be able to learn from their experiences. Overall, a very useful resource for radiographers involved in recruitment, retention and design of services.”
